HAIR MOUSSE: TYPES, WHAT IT IS FOR AND HOW TO USE IT!

One of these days, a reader commented that she felt a little lost with the amount of different hair products, especially finishers, because she didn't really know what they were for. As I think a lot of people have this same doubt, I decided to make a Finisher Guide , starting with the hair mousse, which was forgotten for a long time but which has been gaining more and more fans!

HAIR MOUSSE: WHAT IS IT FOR?

The “white foam” is one of the most versatile products on the market, serving to give volume and balance, define curls, donate shine, combat and avoid frizz, fix hairstyles, give “texture” to the threads, stylize and even “tame” the volume. Everything will depend on the product chosen and, most importantly, the form of use.

That is, it can be used on all types of hair, from fine to thick, from straight to curly. But it is important to observe the product formula and its indications, as well as its level of fixation to choose the best option.

TYPES OF HAIR MOUSSE

The type of mousse varies according to the setting, which can be light, medium or strong. If the fixation is light, the hair becomes more malleable, and it is common to find active conditioning in these products.Medium fixation hairs are the most versatile, and they shape the wires while allowing the hair to be "shaped". The strong fixations make the hair harder, and are great for hairstyles where the hair needs to “stay in place”.

The volume mousse is more suitable for thin and thin hair,in which case it gives “texture” to the strands, leaving them full-bodied,while the modeling mousse is great for styling the strands, taming the curl sand so on.

HOW TO USE MOUSSE ON HAIR?

It can be used in several ways, depending on the result you want:

1. To gain volume: apply the product on damp hair, length, ends and also on the hair root. After applying the product to the root, lower your head and “toss” the hair backwards, directing the dryer with hot air at the root from top to bottom. Once this is done, raise your head and dry the threads again normally.

If you want even more volume, use a comb that has a thin handle to lift the root while it dries.

2. To define the curls or create waves: apply the mousse along the length of the strands and knead the ends to "shape" the strands. Using a diffuser will also help a lot! Look here for additional insights: Best Mousse for Curly Hair

3. To reduce the volume: after combing, apply the mousse over the strands and let it dry naturally. A trick that I used a lot when my hair was curly to "lower" the root volume was to apply a small amount of mousse to the dry root and then use the dryer for 1 minute.

The exact amount depends on the volume and size of the hair,as well as the effect you want. For smaller or less bulky hair, the amount equivalent to 1 lemon is sufficient. If the intention is to "give texture", help with frizz and things like that, this is also the recommended amount.

If the hair is bigger or more voluminous, or if you want more fixation, start with the equivalent of 1 orange and increase the amount if necessary.
